My step daughter said she would call if I made her pick up the trash she dropped everywhere and sometimes threw at me. I dialed the number and handed her the phone. I didn’t stay to listen but went about my house cleaning (not where the trash was tossed or her room but the rest of the house). An hour later, there was a knock on the door. Two deputies (knew both because I was also a deputy) and a CPS rep. I said come on in with a smile. She was on the couch with a bag of potato chips, trash all around her, chip pieces everywhere, and a soft drink on the table. CPS said I was hitting her and starving her. I said, show me one bruise and find out who ate all the food from the packaging on the floor. I also said, they could search her room and ask whatever. I even said in front of the deputies that if they wanted to remove her from the house, they were welcome to take whatever clothes of hers they wanted. About then, she got scared and realized what she had done was not working out for her. Then her daddy showed up (city cop) and all H broke loose. I grinned at one of the deputies and stood back to watch the fiasco. Lots of screaming and crying on her part, shrugs from me, and the CPS agent finally cluing in she was a spoiled brat thanks to her father giving in to everything she wanted. NO case and everyone left. I told my soon to be ex that I would no longer care for his brat in any way and he better figure out what to do with her for the remaining 3 weeks she was to be there. We took her home 4 days later and I divorced before the next summer.
