You’re entitled to change the locks. I’m a female and was renting an apartment from a large slumlord in a big city. I was living alone so when I came home and the toilet seat was up, I was very creeped out. Another time I came home to find leaves around my apartment (and I never walk around in my shoes). So I changed the locks and didn’t say anything to my landlord. A few weeks later I got a call from my landlord asking why my locks had been changed and my answer back was “why do you know that? What the expletive were you doing in my apartment?!” Tons of creeps out there! If there’s a medical emergency/ or water pouring in the fire department can break down your door. My advice is always change your locks the minute you move into a place. Worth your peace of mind and safety.
