My neighbor hit my trash bins with her car when backing up into my driveway. She wants me to be liable for the damages (bins and the car) since I was obstructing “public property”. What do I do?
Your neighbor can serve you court papers, but they’re going to look very silly when they try telling this to a judge. You aren’t responsible. The bins are easily movable, but they hit them. You’ll likely have to call the city trash collection or recycling company, or if you rent, the landlords will need to. But legally, you could pursue your neighbor for the cost of replacement, and they’ll be responsible for their car’s damages. You have little to nothing to worry about.
