I just had this happen to me less than a month ago. It was at a convenience store. I was driving in to park. The passenger at the pumps opened his door without looking, taking off my driver’s mirror and scraping the door. I was over 2 feet away from their car. He immediately started yelling that I was speeding (a lie).I thought he was going to fight. The 311 Dispatcher said that the Police would not respond because it happened on Private Property. Anyway… We exchanged insurance information. I contacted my agent and sent him pictures. He told me that it was definitely her passenger’s fault. I called her insurance agent. She checked on it. She called me back the next morning and told me “There seems to be a coverage problem!”, which is legalese meaning that they weren’t covered. They had not made their monthly payment. I already ordered the mirror on line and changed it myself. $40 and 30 minutes. Thinking that I’d either get reimbursed for the part or I’d be out $40. Oh well! It’s a 25 year old vehicle with plenty of bruises! Sorry to give you a long drawn out story.

Long story short… It’s their fault. How To Open A Car Door That Won't Open From The Outside Or Inside -
